Double Olympic Champion Farah tops the National Ladder
We were delighted to roll out a new version of runbritainrankings.com on the opening day of track and field action of the Olympic Games to include track races of 3000m or longer in our handicap system and National Ladder.
Now, with those changes taken into account, double Olympic Champion Mo Farah unsurprisingly tops the new-look rankings after an incredible couple of weeks, while Julia Bleasdale – who also enjoyed a successful Olympic Games campaign – leads the women’s National Ladder.
Farah’s handicap of -6.2 sets the pace in a top six of Olympians ahead of Andy Baddeley in second (-5.8), Nick McCormick in third (-5.4), marathon duo Scott Overall and Lee Merrien in fourth (-5.4) and fifth (-5.3) respectively, and Chris Thompson in sixth (-5.1).
Bleasdale is in pole position in the women’s ladder with a handicap of -2.3 ahead of her Olympic Games 5000m and 10,000m team mate Jo Pavey with -2.2.
Marathon pair Claire Hallissey in third (-1.6) and Freya Murray in fourth (-1.2) lead the chasing pack with Charlotte Purdue (-1.1) and Caryl Jones (-1.0) – currently in the top 20 of the 2012 runbritain Grand Prix - the only other women with a handicap of minus one or less.
Interestingly, the leaders of the runbritain Grand Prix men’s (Jon Pepper) and women’s (Juliet Doyle) sections are ranked only 68th and 39th respectively, but both have a great opportunity to win some significant prize money if they can hold onto their leads with three races to go.
The remaining fixtures take place at the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k on Sunday 23 September, the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday 30 September and the Perkins Great Eastern Run on 14 October.
