Welsh athletics has made an announcement regarding their key endurance runner, Dewi Griffiths..

Dewi Griffiths (handicap -6.7) currently sits in 2nd place on the runbritain National Ladder behind Mo Farah (handicap -6.8).

After careful consideration and discussion with the athlete, his coach, and the medical team the decision has been taken to withdraw Dewi Griffiths due to injury from competing in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Dewi is clearly very disappointed not to be able to compete but will now turn his attention to his recovery and opportunities to represent both Wales and Great Britain in the future.

Dewi would like to wish his fellow athletes and all of Team Wales the very best for the Games:

“This obviously isn’t the news any athlete would like to hear, but i'm sure Team Wales will do the country proud out there"
