The 31st annual Cliveden Cross Country race organised by Burnham Joggers is taking place on 8th January. It has grown increasingly popular and this year all 600 places sold out in record time.
Those lucky enough to get in early and grab a place can look forward to a challenging six mile course through Cliveden’s beautiful landscaped grounds which are looked after by the National Trust.
The course is described as undulating and uniquely features the famous 172 steps from the banks of the River Thames to the house. Not just once but twice – so 342 steps to climb in total!
The event will be attracting runners from across the region. The 2016 event saw Belgrave Harrier runner Alex Miller (handicap -1.0) win in a time of 36.10, with fellow Belgrave runner Samantha Amend (handicap 1.8) first woman in a time of 41.04. Will anyone beat those times this year?
Burnham Joggers enjoys a close relationship with Cliveden and the National Trust. Nick Cole, Race Director said “We are delighted to be able to put this fantastic event on once again – and would thank the National Trust for their support”.
Nick continued, “We had to disappoint a lot of people this year, unfortunately – entry numbers are limited and the demand was very high. Sorry to those people that missed out”. Our next event is the Beaconsfield 5 mile trail run on Easter Monday, held at Hall Barn. Places are still available via the runbritain.com website.
Local charities benefit from the surplus funds generated by this and other Burnham Joggers events. The event is marshalled by Burnham Joggers volunteer members who don’t run in this event, but the National Trust exclusively allows club members private access to run through Cliveden each Thursday evening in the summer – so they do get to enjoy Cliveden themselves at other times of the year.
