Have you raced or done a parkrun in the last week? There were many opportunities, during the week, with the light summer evenings allowing more races on the calendar including the ever-popular Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs.

The Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs strives to make the 25 lap race aspirational by bringing spectators closer to the action and creating an electric atmosphere. The organisers are succeeding in their mission as runners achieve personal best performances year-on-year. This year, the European Cup for 10,000m was incorporated into the event and Steph Twell (handicap -2.1) took a memorable victory and achieved the Olympic qualifying time, in 31:08.13, whilst Eilish McColgan (handicap -2.9) also achieved the time with 31:16.76 and Ben Connor (handicap -5.0) claimed a bronze in the men’s competition with a PB of 27:57.60.

Meanwhile, at the Meeting Pro Athlé Tour de Marseille, in France, a host of Brits enjoyed a successful trip with Charlie Da'Vall Grice (handicap -6.1) recording a timely victory when he clocked a season’s best to win the 1500m in style. He posted 3:34.35 for victory, a time that puts him 2nd on the runbritain rankings and in the mix for World Championship selection.

In her first outdoor 1500m of the season, Melissa Courtney (handicap -2.2) also hit the World Championship standard after finishing 2nd in 4:05.3 whilst Lynsey Sharp (handicap -1.9) ran very well to finish 2nd in the 800m with 2:00.57, her fastest time of the year, and another World standard. Adelle Tracey (handicap -1.7) was close behind in 2:02.25.
