Although, in many parts of the country the weather was dismal, this weekend saw the running population take part in several big half marathons and 10ks. Some of the bigger races, at the weekend, were:
BTR Liverpool Half Marathon - 4,981 finishers
Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon - 2,452 finishers
Brooks Paddock Wood Half Marathon - 2,059 finishers
Forest of Dean Trail Half Marathon - 1,995 finishers
Colchester Half Marathon - 1,923 finishers
Wakefield Hospice 10K - 1,702 finishers
The BTR Liverpool Half Marathon started on the iconic Pier Head on Liverpool's waterfront and took runners past many more of the city's landmarks. The men's winner was Paul Martelleti (handicap -5.3) who completed the course in 68:00 and the women's winner was Michelle Poulsen, from Denmark, who completed the course in 81:04.
Meanwhile, in the south of the country, the first ever half marathon allowed in the grounds of Hampton Court was taking place. The race started in front of the palace and took the runners on a course within and outside the grounds before finishing in the Home Park Gardens. Ryan McLeod (handicap -4.5) was first to finish in 67:49 with Jenny Spink finishing 3rd overall and first woman in 76:22.
