Brooks Fleet pre-London Half Marathon open for entries
Runners are encouraged to once again support the Brooks Fleet Half Marathon. 2017 is the 36th running of this event – organised entirely by volunteers from Fleet & Crookham AC. The 2017 event takes place on Sunday 19th March and is an ideal warm up event for the London, Brighton and other spring marathons.
The route follows a loop around the main town and then continues out into more rural roads through surrounding villages before returning to Calthorpe Park where you finish. There is a revision to the final two miles this year making them flatter and faster.
The event has a limit of 3,500 runners and fills every year – normally by Christmas/New Year so don’t leave it late to enter. Attracting runners of all abilities – club, charity/fun runners, experienced and beginners – all will be made very welcome and supported around the route by over 300 marshals/helpers and the residents who really do come out to support it. You will be welcomed home and presented with your medal by the F&C AC Junior Athletes.
The course is fast (2016 1:07 winning time) so there is PB potential but the main driver for the organisers is that all runners go away from Fleet having enjoyed their experience, delighted with their medal and other finisher gifts and wanting to come back again.
The event is fully licensed, certified and accurately measured. Chip timing will give all runners their own individual time and with a full road closure there is room to run. With plenty going on in the race village too you won’t want to rush off.
The race is great value at just £21 for attached runners (£23 unattached) – Fleet is the “Small town race, with the big race feel”. All monies from the event go to supporting grass roots athletics/road running (inc. F&C AC “new home” project) and donations to our local and national charities as well as donating to all the other groups involved in the day.
