Bespak GEAR Marathon place draw

A new leaf has been turned over in Sherwood Forest.  The evil Sheriff of Nottingham is doing a good deed on behalf of the organisers of the Bespak Grand East Anglia Run.

Oh no he isn't! Oh yes he is...

Former Eastenders star Shaun Williamson, aka the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham in this year's Alive Corn Exchange pantomime Robin Hood, will draw the lucky winner of a free place in next year's London Marathon.

The draw takes place at 1pm on Wednesday, 16 December 2015, at Alive Corn Exchange.  Runners who have entered the Bespak Grand East Anglia Run by Monday 14 December and who have ticked the box to say they wanted to be entered into the draw are eligible.

Gold coins with the eligible race numbers on will be placed in a large bag for the Sheriff of Nottingham to draw from.  Cllr David Pope, Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds and Jon Benstead will be adjudicating on behalf of the borough council, Alive Leisure and Bespak to ensure fair play.  Once the Sheriff has selected his gold coin, the winner will be announced.

The London Marathon place was awarded to Bespak Grand East Anglia Run by the British Association of Road Races when the race picked up the Bill Reynolds Memorial Trophy for outstanding race organisation.

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds said: "We were honoured to win the Bill Reynolds Trophy and receiving a free place for one of the world's most prestigious marathons was just the icing on the cake.  We are delighted that Shaun Williamson has found some time in his hectic pantomime schedule to do the draw for us where one lucky entrant will have the chance to take part in the Marathon.  All I can say is good luck to everyone that entered, and if you don't win, at least you'll still be taking part in our fabulous Bespak Grand East Anglia Run!"

The Virgin London Marathon takes place on Sunday, 26 April 2016.

The Bespak Grand East Anglia Run takes place on Sunday, 1 May 2016 with the main 10k race starting at 10.45am in the Tuesday Market Place in King's Lynn.  The mini GEAR fun run starts at 10am. The fast, flat course takes runners on a loop through the town centre, through The Walks and along the waterfront, showcasing some of the town's key heritage and retail areas.

The course is suitable for runners of all abilities, including wheelchair athletes.

The Bespak GEAR is a UKA and BARR Gold-Graded event. The cost of entry is £18 for affiliated runners and £20 for unaffiliated runners. To enter, runners must be aged 15 or over on race day.
