Andi Jones targets Greater Manchester Marathon

Organisers of the Greater Manchester Marathon on Sunday 28 April have confirmed that Andi Jones has signed up for the event with the aim to make it his focus race for spring 2013 and to beat his current best time of 2:15:20.
Finishing as the third Brit at the 2012 Virgin London Marathon and taking second place at the Greater Manchester Marathon just a week later, Jones has confirmed that he will not be running in London next April and will instead fully focus his training on the Greater Manchester Marathon - partly because it takes place in his home town, but also because of the flatness of the route; in fact with just 55m of elevation gain, the Greater Manchester Marathon is the flattest in the UK and one of the flattest in the world, appealing equally to PB chasers, elite runners and the masses.
“I ran the Greater Manchester Marathon this year just a week after running the London Marathon and therefore struggled a bit and wasn’t at my peak,” said Jones. “I’m now looking forward to a good winter’s training and the forthcoming cross country season. The plan is to get in PB shape for the Greater Manchester Marathon in 2013 so watch this space! Competing in your home town and in front of home crowds is always special, and the Manchester crowds were amazing this year and offered tremendous support all around the course.”
The Greater Manchester Marathon, which returned in 2012 for the first time after a decade, takes place on Sunday 28 April 2013 and entries are now open.
