Organisers of the Manchester Half Marathon have confirmed award-winning global discount supermarket chain Aldi as Official Headline Partner for the inaugural race on Sunday 16th October 2016.
Manchester’s highly anticipated 13.1-mile race will now be called the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon.
As a brand that champions British produce and British talent, and which has won a string of accolades over the years, Aldi has most recently been the Official Supermarket Sponsors of Team GB at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. With six Team GB Ambassadors including gold medallists Jade Jones, Nicola Adams and Jack Laugher, the supermarket’s focus has always been to provide fresh, affordable and healthy food so that everyone can eat like a champion.
Following on from Rio, the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon is a perfect partner for Aldi as it enables the supermarket to continue its support of sport through a new and inclusive race distance.
An ideal stepping stone between a 10K and a full marathon, Manchester’s first ever half marathon has instant appeal for first time runners as well as for professional athletes looking to achieve a PB on the flat and fast course. Indeed, with less than one month to go, the race is on track to sell out all of its 12,000 places for its autumn debut.
In addition to its role as Headline Partner, Aldi will also be supporting the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon at a community level by providing water during the race and food and drink for all the race marshals.
Aldi joins other high profile names including ASICS, Intersport and HIGH5 in lending strong support to the very first Aldi Manchester Half Marathon.
The Aldi Manchester Half Marathon promises to be one of the UK’s flattest and fastest half marathons, with only 41m elevation gain and a 2 mile+ finish straight. The race starts at White City roundabout and finishes at Emirates Old Trafford Lancashire County Cricket Club, the same venue as the popular ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, and the organisers are promising plenty of entertainment and outstanding crowd support.
Race Director Simon Hill commented, “We are delighted to welcome Aldi as our Official Headline Partner for the inaugural Aldi Manchester Half Marathon. The supermarket joins us in wanting to make sport available to everyone, and we hope that recent success in Rio will inspire any last entrants to sign up and join in. It is set to be a fantastic day of sporting achievement, with outstanding support and entertainment alongside big name sponsors.
“With less than four weeks until race day, the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon is selling rapidly, but there is still time to register and be part of the action. We look forward to filling the streets of Manchester and showing runners all that this great sporting city has to offer.”
Aldi Regional Managing Director, Ruth Doyle, commented: “Aldi is thrilled to support the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon, which is a positive new addition to the UK running calendar. At Aldi we have always placed great importance on supporting British talent, be it through the sourcing of our produce, or the sponsorship of events. Our healthy philosophy in store perfectly complements the health benefits of running a half marathon, and we are very much looking forward to supporting what promises to be a fantastic race day.”
The Aldi Manchester Half Marathon is supporting three National Charity Partners: Alzheimer’s Society, British Heart Foundation and Save the Children. The two Local Charity Partners are The Christie and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH).
The Aldi Manchester Half Marathon will take runners on wide, closed roads through Old Trafford, Stretford, Brooklands and Sale. Entry costs £37, with £1 per runner going into the Trafford Athlete Fund which was set up to benefit gifted and talented young athletes in the Trafford borough.
A total of 12,000 places are available for the Aldi Manchester Half Marathon 2016. Entries are still open and runners are encouraged to sign up now at the race’s website, which includes links to the official charities.
