A father and daughter winning team!

Pippa Moakes went out to beat her father’s time, this year, at her first London Marathon in support of The Institute of Cancer Research, London but had to take her hat off to him....at least until next year!
At just 19 years of age Pippa Moakes has now completed three half marathons as well as the London Marathon as part of #teamICR. In 2014 Pippa ran the Paris Half Marathon and, as part of her training towards London, this year, she completed both the Bath and Reading Half Marathons.
Pippa is following in her father, Nick’s footsteps. Nick is one of the managing directors of the Investment Division at the Wellcome Trust, which is one of the research funding partners for ICR. He is also a marathon enthusiast and completed the London Marathon for the ICR in 2012.
Pippa said: “Being somewhat competitive, I was aiming to beat my Dad’s time of 3:52 and the London Marathon seemed the best, most fun course to achieve that on. I was on the right pace to do that until half way but I slipped off the schedule and finished in 5:04:56. This is the world’s best-known marathon, though, and I feel proud to have completed it.”
The rivalry is all in good spirits and with Nick’s previous fundraising, Pippa and her Dad have raised more than £20,000 for the ICR’s cancer research. Pippa’s total is still increasing steadily even after the event. The cause is close to both their hearts having had family members and friends affected by cancer.
