2017 Limassol Marathon GSO Becomes Two Day Event

Limassol Marathon start

Organisers of the 2017 Limassol Marathon GSO have announced that the event will become a two-day event from next year onwards. The 2017 event will now take place on Saturday 18th March and Sunday 19th March, to allow for a weekend celebration of running.

The decision to turn Limassol Marathon GSO into a two-day event comes as it enters its 11th year and looks forward to welcoming 13,000 participants to Cyprus next spring. Having enjoyed increased popularity over recent years, with athletes coming from all over the world to #RunLimassol, the organisers agree that dedicating separate days to the major races will allow participants and spectators to enjoy each race to the full over an action-packed weekend.

The Limassol Marathon GSO weekend will officially start on Saturday 18th March, with the Primetel 5K Corporate Race setting off at 9am and the 1K Kids Race at 11am. The Primetel 5K Corporate Race was the most popular race at the 2016 event, offering businesses a unique team building opportunity as well as a great chance to encourage fitness in the work place. For 2017 the Corporate Race will enjoy a new coastal route along Limassol’s stunning seafront.

Sunday 19th March will then play host to the AIMS-accredited Limassol Marathon GSO, the Half Marathon, the Petrolina 10K Energy Race and the 5K City Race, all of which set off at 7am.

The 26.2-mile Limassol Marathon GSO is renowned for its flat, fast and straight course stretching 21km along the beautiful Mediterranean, making it an ideal race for first time marathoners as well for elite athletes looking for a PB or qualifying time. The attractive course, combined with Cyprus’ pleasant climate, spectacular coastal scenery and plentiful history and culture, make Limassol a highly desirable destination for a spring race. Generous cash prizes are an added incentive for serious athletes, with extra bonuses for those who succeed in breaking the course records.

Entries for the Primetel 5K Corporate Race are now open, and the team registration fee costs 300 euros per team with a minimum of four and an unlimited maximum number of runners. Those who register for the Primetel 5K Corporate Race on the Saturday have the opportunity to run the individual 5K City Race on the Sunday for a reduced fee of 10 euros, which will be given directly to charity.

The choice of race distances makes Limassol Marathon GSO unique in comparison to other international running events and attractive to runners of all ages and abilities. Together the races offer a complete sporting experience which is very much embraced by the thousands of participants and spectators who come to the start line to cheer the contestants on. Overseas visitors can expect a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome from the locals who love this weekend of sporting greatness.
