2014 route launched for the PUMA Stockport 10

Stockport 10

The organisers of this year’s  PUMA Stockport 10, Stockport Harriers, are pleased to announce the route for the 2014 race.

The PUMA Stockport 10 will take place on 7 December 2014. It is a popular pre-Christmas race that attracts runners with various motivations from those who are using it to prepare for a spring marathon or half marathon to those who have it as a main target and celebrate being able to get around this hilly, 10 mile route.  This year's course has been given several small changes to improve the running experience even more for those that take part:

  • The start will still be on the track in Woodbank park but, to avoid lapping, the runners will only run 300m to start before going out into the park
  • The finish will also still be on the track and will be slightly longer, taking in the same 300m in reverse, to finish near to the club house, giving spectators a better view of their friends and family as they cross the finish line
  • The section through Vernon Park, near to the finish, has been taken out so that runners don't have to negotiate the tight bends and a step in that section
  • To make up the distance lost, an extra loop has been added within the first two miles, around Curzon Green, giving runners the opportunity to cheer those going in the opposite direction as they run around the green!

Race Director Neil Thompson said "The PUMA Stockport 10 organising committee is made up of runners who know running and we make sure that our thoughts are in line with those that take part in our event by seeking their feedback. We believe that the runners who take part in this year's event will appreciate a more straight forward course that allows more flow so that runners can get onto a rhythm and that this will improve their experience and, hopefully, their time!"

The PUMA Stockport 10 is a popular event on the calendar due to its friendly atmosphere, quirky goody bag (see the video below) and efficient organisation.
